Creative arts and dementia
There is a huge interest in creative arts programmes for people with dementia, and we have already been involved in evaluating several small-scale programmes. Our interest goes beyond simply seeing creative arts as an intervention for the person with dementia – we are engaged in a programme of work that will examine the effects of these programmes on the wider community, and their role in creating ‘dementia supportive communities’. We are working closely with Bangor University’s Pontio project, a major new centre for arts and innovation, which is supporting and championing a wide range of dementia-focused arts projects. This exciting project is drawing together input from a number of schools and centres within Bangor University, establishing new inter-disciplinary collaborations.
