Service Evaluations and Service Development

DSDC has extensive experience of carrying out bespoke evaluations of dementia care services and undertaking consultative exercises. Each evaluation is designed to meet the needs of the service, and typically would include an action plan and recommendations for service improvement. DSDC can work with a service to assist in the implementation of an action plan, provide mentoring and advice to staff and management.

Bangor University will usually make a charge for this type of work, and the scale of charges is available on request.

Care Home Design

DSDC has advised numerous care homes and other services in Wales and beyond regarding aspects of the care environment. This can be in relation to a new-build or a conversion of an existing facility. The principles of good dementia design are widely known, but in most schemes there is a need to consider what are the priorities for making the most difference to the quality of the environment, whilst retaining a practical scheme. DSDC offers pragmatic advice, based on extensive study of facilities for people with dementia across the world, and from over 25 years experience of designing dementia facilities. This advice may be sought at any stage of the scheme, but is most valuable before the plans are finalised.
